Lady Devils cruise past CRMS
The Lady Devils’ shots did everything but tear holes in the net Thursday in their 7-0 win over Colorado Rocky Mountain School.
Eagle Valley came out firing, scoring five goals in the first half. Senior Brooke Baughfman lead off with a laser assisted by Kathryn Brock.
The next two goals came from junior Samantha Phillips, who finished the day with a hat trick.
The fourth goal of the game came from Jamie Woodworth, who was six yards behind the 18-yard line when she missiled a shot that dipped just in time to nick the crossbar and roll down the back of the net.
And the final goal of the half came from Lindsay Kunkel.
“We played really well,” said senior co-captain Katie Lovell. “We passed well and worked as a team.”
“We did a good job of keeping the ball in our possession,” said sweeper Jessica Jagger.
In fact, at one desperate point in the second half, Colorado Rocky Mountain School coach Amanda Leahy could be heard screaming, “C’mon green! Get the ball out of the box! Don’t just stand around waiting for some white to kick it!”
The second half saw more goals from Phillips and Baughfman.
Despite the impressive offensive display put on by Eagle Valley, when asked what they had to work on, the three captains, Brock, Baughfman and Lovell, and Jagger responded with a resounding “Finishing!”
