Late preps: Palisade edges Devils boys
PALISADE – Well, this is shaping up as another bizarre year in Western Slope boys basketball.
Steamboat Springs knocked off Glenwood Springs, 61-43, Friday night. That should soften the blow a bit for Eagle Valley after a tough 58-49 loss at Palisade, also on Friday.
Sometimes, breaking down a game is pretty complex. This one wasn’t. Eagle Valley missed 18 layups against the Bulldogs, and that’s pretty much that.
“We usually count on Tim Wells, Ayren Hart and Jeremy Sabo to make those,” Devils coach Brent McConaghy said. “Unfortunately, they didn’t. From a coaching standpoint, the positive is that we got the shots we wanted against one of the best teams in the Western Slope.
This game was nip-and-tuck all the way. and McConaghy liked the way his defense played, which is a good sign. Unfortunately, the Devils had to foul late and the Bulldogs were 14-for-21 from the line.
Sam Lounsberry led the Devils with 13 points, while Cooper Senn had 10.
Eagle Valley (6-3 and 1-1 in the Slope) heads to Fruita for a nonconference game Tuesday.
