GOLDEN, Colorado ” After taking the final two qualifying sports for state in the region, a pair of local golfers fared quite well this week at the big show.

Battle Mountain’s Kaity Plath broke into the top half of the field at the 4A state golf tournament in Golden, shooting a 192, while Eagle Valley’s Jeanette Baker shot a 204.

Plath, who had a great performance two weeks ago at regionals in Delta where she shot a 98, started out state Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club with a 97. Tuesday, Plath shaved off a pair of strokes for a 95, good for 31st out of a field of 84.

Baker, who overcame an illness earlier this season, made a second-half surge and qualified for state for the second year in a row, shooting a 98 in Delta. Monday, Baker shot a 98, then a 106 Tuesday to take 56th overall.
