Local karate students take world titles in New Orleans
EAGLE – Students of James Lee’s School of Karate in Eagle traveled to New Orleans earlier this month to compete in the United States Karate Alliance (USKA) 2005 World Championship, and to receive honors earned during the 2004-05 karate tournament season.Competing in the tournament were James Lee, Charlie Moore, Cameron Moore, John Readle, Paul Witt, Benjamin Witt and David Witt. Competing from martial arts students from around the country as well as other countries, the contingent from Eagle turned in impressive performances, bringing home two World Champion titles and 10 top-four finishes in total. The results are:
— Charlie Moore; first place sparring, second place kata (forms).– Benjamin Witt: first place kata, second place sparring, fourth place weapons.
— James Lee: fourth place sparring.– Paul Witt: fourth place weapons.– Team sparring: fourth place: (Charlie Moore, John Readle, Paul Witt).
— Team Kata: fourth place: (Benjamin Witt, David Witt, Cameron Moore).– Team sparring: third place: (Benjamin Witt)
In addition to the World Championship tournament, presentations were made by the USKA for final point standings from the 2004-05 tournament season. Students from James Lee’s finished with more than 60 top-10 national standings for the year.
