Moffat rolls past Huskies
EAGLE<The Battle Mountain baseball team unveiled its new Notre Dame style golden helmets in Thursday1s double-dip against Moffat County.Unfortunately, the golden domes didn1t bring the luck of the Irish with them.The Huskies had a long afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs 35-1 and 15-0.In the first game, the first 10 batters Moffat sent to the plate all scored. The Bulldogs added 11 runs in the third and 10 more in the fourth inning. Bulldogs catcher Tad Behrens led the charge with two three-run homers.Battle Mountain1s lone run came in the third inning when Chris Romero stole home on the back end of a delayed steal. Romero had both of Battle Mountain1s hits in the first game.In the night cap, the Huskies got a solid outing from pitcher Jimmy Feeney who went the distance. Nevertheless, Moffat played long ball as center fielder Jared Esty left the park twice. Eric Bastow and Chris Field also homered for the Bulldogs.Offensive highlights for the Huskies included a triple from shortstop Eugene Trujillo and singles from Garrett Duncan, Feeney and Romero.Battle Mountain, 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the 4A Western Slope, heads to Palisade for another doubleheader today. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
