Mogul Mania set to soar Saturday with bump, air & rail series

Mogul Mania is set to soar once again Saturday as Vail Mountain’s Cookshack Run plays host to the second event in the popular bump, air and rail series.Competition at the nation’s largest pro/am bump series for skiers, boarders and telemarkers gets under way with single-elimination moguls action on dual courses at 11 a.m. alongside the rail jam at 11 a.m. The Liberty Skis Air Show is at 1 p.m.In the kick-off event on Feb. 7, local John Spriggs catapulted himself over the competition and into a Liberty Skis Air Show win. Former U.S. Ski Team member Mike Freidberg grabbed the $1,000 first-place check in the Open Pro Men’s Division, while Mike Amato and Kelsey Teran won the Men’s and Women’s Sport Divisions.”Our first event really exposed the tremendous talents of these competitors,” said Scott McCormick of Highline Sports & Entertainment, the organizing company for Mogul Mania, “And, we expect another great show this weekend. The addition of the rail jam has added a new element to the day’s events, keeping the action and energy level high.”In addition to the Pro, Air Show and Rail Jam competitions, Mogul Mania also includes categories for all ages and abilities of skiers, boarders and telemarkers.Along with all the on-hill festivities, each Mogul Mania also features an awards party, complete with beverages, giveaways and awards for all divisions. Saturday’s post party is at the Lion’s Den in Lionshead.Mogul Mania continues its four-event series on March 6 and March 27.Registration for Mogul Mania is currently under way, with entries at $25 per event for amateur competitors, $50 for professionals and Air Show participants, and $20 for Rail Jam entries. Competitor lift tickets are $35 and available for purchase race day only. Competitors can register online at or in person at Ski Base in Lionshead across from Moe’s BBQ. Registration for moguls and air ends at 5 p.m. on Friday. Registration for the Rail Jam will be available the day of the event at the rail.The 2004 Mogul Mania series is presented by Toyota, Johns Manville, Coors Light, Carrera and Skiing Magazine and brought to you in part by Liberty Skis, Nature Valley Granola Bars, Fate, Peak Dentistry, Starbucks, Vail Mountain, Moe’s Original Barbeque, the Vail Daily, KVBA TV8 and KZYR the Zephyr.
