Mogul Mania takes off Saturday
The nation’s largest pro/am bump series for skiers, boarders and telemarkers, the opening Mogul Mania event starts at 10 a.m., with single elimination moguls competition on dual courses, while the Air Show is slated for a 1 p.m. start. In addition to the Jan. 18 competition, the four-event Mogul Mania Series, produced by Vail-based Highline Sports & Entertainment, is also scheduled for Feb. 1, March 8 and March 22, with all events hosted on Cookshack.”Mogul skiing and the freestyle tour were things that truly helped shape the nature of events in Vail in the early years,” said Jeff Brausch of Highline Sports and Entertainment, the event’s organizer. “So Mogul Mania is a natural extension of all those great skiers and pioneers. The great thing about the series is that amateur skiers, boarders and telemarkers have the chance to match their skills with some of the best in the business in the midst of a giant party. It’s great entertainment for both competitors and spectators.”Along with the on-hill festivities, each Mogul Mania event also features a post-event awards party in Vail Village, complete with food and beverage, giveaways and raffles, and awards for all divisions. Saturday’s post-party is slated for Powder Hounds in Lionshead, located adjacent to the Eagle Bahn Gondola.Registration for Mogul Mania is currently available, with entries priced at $25 for amateur competitors and $50 for professionals and Air Show participants. Competitors can register online at http://www.mogulmania.com or in person at Ski Base in Lionshead.Participants registering in person will also receive a free copy of the freeskiing video, “Skiing’s Last Stand,” and will also be registered to win free Fate jackets and pants at each event.
