Mountaineer Alums win two

The Vail Mountaineer Alumni opened its season last month with a home-and-home series with The Steamboat Springs Coyotes. Louis Rinn shined in the Mountaineer net, turning aside 29 shots in the 7-1 Mountaineers’ win in Eagle. Sam Frey, John Manley and Matt Blake each scored two goals and Andy Clark added two assists, setting up Gary Defina for the other goal on a nice 2-on-1.In the rematch in Steamboat, the game stayed close for two periods, with the score 3-1 after two. Dave Bishop scored all three of the goals, and all were assisted by Brian Desmond. Scott Thurston opened the third period floodgates with a nice shot from the slot, and the Mountaineers poured in seven third period goals for a 10-3 final. Matt Merritt had three third-period goals, and Bishop added his fourth. Lonnie Bredeson had the win in nets turning away 27 shots. Next up for the Mountaineers is Aspen, coming to Eagle this Saturday . The puck drops is at 4:15 p.m. at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink.
