MWHL back in action

Daily Staff Report

Mountain Women’s Hockey League (MWHL) is anticipating a huge increase in membership for its third season. This league, for novice and intermediate women players age 18 and older, uses the ice rinks in Eagle and Vail for both practices and games from mid-October through March.”Last season over 80 women participated in the league’s second season. We anticipate an even greater number of women will be interested in joining our third season and plan on adding a sixth team to the league,” said Ginny Crowley, member of the MWHL’s steering committee. “The advantage of a local league like this is that there is very little traveling involved.”In mid-October a training camp at both Eagle and Vail ice rinks is held to learn and/or review basic skating, stick handling and game positioning skills. The camps are divided by ability for novice or more advanced players. At the conclusion of the training camps, teams of approximately equal ability are formed that play each other during the season. Coaching and instruction are an important part of the league, and practice sessions will continue to be held during the season. Players will practice or play each week, and a tournament at the end of the season will determine the overall league champion team. The league’s Web site at mwhlinfo.com has more detailed information. Women interested in joining this league should contact Crowley at 476-5008 or e-mail mwhl@comcast.net. Vail, Colorado
