Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL – The sixth and final race in the Vail Recreation District’s (VRD) La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series, the Evergold 10K, is at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The race has a new course, which begins and ends at the Vail Golf Club. Runners will traverse from the golf club along the Vail Trail to Golden Peak, up the Berry Picker trail, to Lion Down, back to Golden Peak and finishing the run on the Vail Trail.

Runners will experience an average grade of 10 percent and gain nearly 1,700 feet in elevation throughout the race. Parking is limited and race participants and spectators are encouraged to carpool to the Vail Golf Club for the race.

The Evergold 10K rounds out the race season, which, when completed, will have taken participants on a total of 52 miles of trails and an elevation gain of 16,475 feet throughout the summer.

“This race ties the series together in what has been one of our most successful trail running series to date,” said VRD race coordinator Marc Thomas. “We’re already looking forward to organizing the 13th year of the series in 2010.”

Individual race costs are $25 for preregistration or $35 on race-day. Registration is available online at or from noon-5 p.m. Saturday at the VRD’s administration building, located at 700 S. Frontage Rd. East.

Day-of registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the race start area located at the Vail Golf Club. Following the race, there is an end-of-season brunch for runners. During the brunch, prizes from La Sportiva and the VRD will be presented to overall and age group winners of the race, as well as end-of-season series prizes to those runners who have competed in at least five events.
