No. 1 Liberty blanks Huskies, 3-0
Battle Mountain soccer’s season came to an end Thursday night in a 3-0 loss at No. 1-ranked Liberty in the first round of the state playoffs.
“All in all, they scored two good goals and, maybe, we had a mistake on their third goal,” Huskies coach David Cope said. “Our kids were competitive. It was 1-nil at the half. We certainly did our league proud. Their coach said that we were more competitive than a lot of their league games.”
Max Light scored for the Lancers in the 13th minute. In the 48th minute, all-american goalie Conrad Taylor boomed a goal kick 75 yards with backspin to onrushing Lancers forward Kyle Joerm, who made it, 2-0. Mason Bragg scored his 16th goal of the season in the 57th minute.
Battle Mountain’s best scoring opportunity came in the first half when Julio Garcia played a beautiful cross. All the Huskies’ attackers we in position, but Taylor parried the ball away beautifully.
Battle Mountain finishes the season with a 10-7 record.
