Nordic skiers make tracks at Eldora

ELDORA – This past weekend, Eagle Valley skiers skated their way to top finishes at the Eldora Nordic race.Leading the way in Saturday’s high school race were Ski and Snowboard Club Vail athletes Karlie Moore in third place, Lani Bruntz in fifth and Molly McGee in seventh. Moore took first place in Friday’s junior national qualifier in the J2 group, while her finish in Saturday’s race was also good enough for a second place finish in the J2 group.”That was the highlight of the weekend,” said SSCV Nordic director Karl Hochtl. “She’s really coming on strong.”On both Friday and Saturday, Bruntz placed fifth in the J1 group, while McGee came in seventh in the J1 group on Saturday.”Lani had a great weekend, and for being sick, Molly had an admirable finish,” Hochtl said.With their finishes, Moore, Bruntz and McGee should qualify for the junior nationals, Hochtl said.Vail Mountain’s Kaitlin Zdechlik came in 17th in Saturday’s race (14th in the J2) and 15th in Friday’s race. Janelle Kibler-Silengo cracked the top 30 with a 28th-place finish in Saturday’s race (13th in J1 race), Elsie Macsata placed 31st (20th in J2) and Christiana White followed in 34th.Michele Hiland and Whitney Allard were Battle Mountain’s top finishers, coming in 23rd and 24th, respectively. Other finishers were: Sammy McCoy, 33rd; Jane Lettovska, 39th; Lydia Houghton, 41st; Morgan Wallace, 46th; Julia Burnett, 51st; Julia Schorr, 53rd and Cindy Villegas, 57th.Eagle Valley’s Ali Gulick grabbed the top spot for her team again, placing 30th, while teammate Caitlin Yarger finished 5th.Vail Christian’s Jessica Linder was 43rd, while teammate Lettie Fickling was 54th.SSCV, Devils boys grab top-30 spotsSSCV’s Tony Ryerson put in two good days of skating at Eldora, finishing 12th in Saturday’s high school race (eighth in J2) and 15th in Friday’s junior qualifier.”He’s been working hard, and it’s paying off for him,” Hochtl said. Teammate Bobby LeGaye was right behind Ryerson, placing 14th Saturday (18th in J1) and 19th on Friday. Following Vail Mountain’s Chris Woods (17th in the high school race) were a slew of Eagle Valley racers.The Devils’ Kyle Simonett cracked the top 25 by placing 24th, while Ethan Smith was 31st, Sage Smith finished 35th and James McGoodwin placed 38th.
