Palisade takes two from Huskies baseball
Battle Mountain baseball dropped another doubleheader Friday afternoon, losing a pair to Palisade.
The Bulldogs downed the Huskies 10-0 and 15-3 as Battle Mountain fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the 4A Western Slope.
Battle Mountain’s offense continued its early-season struggles, managing just two hits, one each from Eugene Trujillo and Chris Romero. Good news came in the form of pitcher Jarid Bortz, who went the whole way to extend Palisade to six innings before the 10-run-rule went into effect.
In the nightcap, Palisade jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Battle Mountain got on the board in its half of the fourth inning when Trujillo doubled and Eddie Irgens delivered an RBI single.
In the fifth inning, the Huskies started a two-run rally when Israel Chavez walked. Ryan Schnell followed with a double, knocking in Chavez. Chavez later scored on a single from Romero.
The Huskies are next in action on Tuesday on the road at Steamboat Springs. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
