Playoff spotlight – Sean Reynolds

Here’s a look at a world gone Sean Reynolds:

Date of birth: Jan. 7, 1985

Parents: Buz and Monica Reynolds

Siblings: Jennifer, 23, BMHS ’97

What’s fun about soccer?: “It’s just fun being out here. I love our team. We have a very close team. We have a lot of fun guys. We hang out on and off the field.”

What’s up with everybody’s hair?: “It was a team thing. A couple of guys dyed their hair. Then, before the (Alamosa) game, we were sitting at the hotel, kind of bored, most of the rest of us dyed our hair. Most likely, the four remaining guys will also before the next game.”

Is (coach David) Cope going to join you guys?: “We talked to him about it and the chances are very slim. We’re going to have to keep winning in the playoffs for that to happen.”

Who are the characters on this team?: “It’s hard to narrow them down. Everado (Gonzalez) is definitely one of them. (Chris) Jones, who scored the winning goal (against Alamosa). Everyone, Vegas (assistant coach John Steffens), the coaches, they all are.”

How exciting is it to make state?: “This is great. Last year, I went with the guys. It was just a blast, but we really wanted to make it. Just getting that first win is really a big step.”

How much confidence does that give you?: “It was just great for our senior year to get that. We all knew that we deserved it and we finally got it. It was a good win.”

What’s Cope like as a coach?: “I’ve known Cope forever and he’s coached me for a number of years. He’s great. He really tries to keep up on each of the players and how they’re doing both in and out of school. It’s nice to have a coach that knows you personally.”

What’s the funniest thing Cope’s done?: “Before the second Steamboat game, we were watching a video of some soccer games and Man. U. scored this great goal and Cope takes off his shirt and runs out of the locker room waving it over his head. Getting back to his English soccer hooligan roots.”

What’s it like to be a senior?: “It’s great. It’s a lot of fun. Our whole class is real close. We’re great friends. We all have pretty hard schedules. We’re making sure we’re having fun. This season is probably going to be the highlight of our year. We’re trying to make it last as long as we can.”
