Pond Skimming Championships postponed
VAIL – Male thongs are nothing but trouble. First, spectators and participants at Saturday’s World Pond Skimming Championships had to bear witness to a competitor who nearly bared it all. Then, the thong-clad skimmer ended the competition early for everyone by slicing a hole in the side liner of the pool, which caused all the water to leak out of the pond.”Not only was he a disgrace to all who had to see the unbearable sight, but he also forced us to postpone the duration of the event until (today),” said James Deighan, one of the organizers of the Spring Back to Vail event. The event has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. today at Golden Peak.
“This will allow families to go to church, have brunch and come and enjoy the event,” Deighan said.Racers who competed on Saturday will be allowed to test their luck again on Sunday.
Spring?Saturday’s weather was great for skiing, but gave goose bumps to some of the more scantily clad skimmers.Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of almost 60 degrees, which should make the probably dip into Golden Peak’s lake less daunting for some.
And yes, thongs will still get you nowhere with the ladies, or the judges.Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 14631, or firstname.lastname@example.org.Vail, Colorado
