Prep notebook: Battle Mountain hockey takes down Aspen, Devils wrestling hosts triangular and Vail Mountain skier victorious in Eldora

The Battle Mountain boys hockey team scored six first-period goals en route to a 7-1 victory over Aspen on Tuesday at the Eagle Ice Rink.
Trevor Dunn and Gannon Sharkey each tallied two goals in the victory. The Huskies also received scores from George Grayson, Sidney Towle and Eric Laidlaw. Nathan Rahe led the home team with two assists and Evan Humphrey stopped 15 shots on goal to get the win. Battle Mountain improved to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the 4A Mountain League going into Friday’s game against Steamboat Springs. The Sailors (13-2) pay a visit to Dobson Ice Arena at 5:30 p.m.
Other prep notes
- The Vail Mountain School boys basketball team lost to Middle Park 72-57 on the road Tuesday night. The Gore Rangers fell to 8-6 while Middle Park improved to 11-3.
- Eagle Valley hosted a home wrestling triangular against Rifle and Steamboat Springs on Tuesday in Gypsum. The Devils boys varsity defeated the Bears 45-24 and took down the Sailors 41-30. On the girls side, Eagle Valley’s Julia Borejszo pinned Rifle’s Maddison Schuller at 135 pounds and Gabby Littlepage earned a 13-6 decision over Karisa Craig, but the Devils lost in the team scoring 27-15.

The Battle Mountain, Eagle Valley and Vail Mountain School Nordic ski teams contested a 5-kilometer classic race at Eldora on Wednesday. Vail Mountain School’s Isla Elton won the individual girls title, crossing the line in 19 minutes, 23.8 seconds. Lake County came away with the team title on the girls side as the Huskies finished in second. Summit came away victorious on the boys side, led by Carter Niemkiewicz’s three-second victory over Steamboat Springs Charlie Wiedel. Eagle Valley, Battle Mountain and Vail Mountain School finished fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively.
