Preps action continues

Starting with the ice, Battle Mountain hockey hosts Palmer in Metro Conference action. The Huskies (9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference), hold a four-point lead in the Metro. Palmer (6-3-1, 2-2) is one of those teams two games behind Battle Mountain so Friday’s game should be critical for Jade Kersey’s crew.

Eagle Valley, Battle Mountain and Vail Christian all hit the hardwood. The Devils face a stiff test Friday night at Aspen. The girls tip at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 7 p.m. The Devils return home Saturday to host Hotchkiss at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

Huskies hoops also has some key league tilts. Both the girls (6 p.m.) and the boys (7:30 p.m.) are home Friday to face Glenwood Springs. On Saturday, the girls, led by Davis Hite, head to Rifle, while Philip Tronsrue’s club stays in Eagle-Vail to host the Bears. Tip-off for both games Saturday is at 7:30 p.m.

The Saints won’t be lacking for action either. Vail Christian has a girls-boys double-dip Friday night against 1A Mountain League foe, DeBeque, at 6 and 7:30 p.m. It’s nonconference action for the Saints when 2A Meeker comes to town Saturday. The tip-offs against the Cowboys are at 1 and 2:30 p.m. All of Vail Christian’s games this weekend are at St. Claire’s Assisi Church in Edwards.

On the slopes, Battle Mountain Eagle Valley and Vail Mountain all head to Winter Park for Friday’s slalom. The race will be at the base of the mountain on Lower Hughes so spectators need not buy a lift ticket to watch the proceedings. First run is at 9:30 a..m, with the second at 1 p.m. Nordic has the week off.

The same cannot be said of Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain wrestling. The Devils renew their rivalry with Meeker Friday at 5 p.m. in Gypsum. The Devils are then off the Palisade for a Saturday tournament. The Huskies, meanwhile, are at Middle Park Friday night and then head to Englewood for a tourney Saturday.
