Public can comment on plan for Buttermilk ski area

ASPEN, Colorado – The public has until Jan. 8 to offer the U.S. Forest Service comments on Buttermilk Mountain’s plans to expand snowmaking at the ski area.

Aspen Skiing Co.’s plans for Buttermilk include more snowmaking, two new ponds to store water for snowmaking, a new on-mountain lift maintenance facility, and summer horseback trail rides.

Plans also include a ski jump venue, proposed by Aspen Skiing Co. and the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. The Forest Service says the venue is not intended to be used as part of the Winter X Games.

The Forest Service is taking public comments on a recently released environmental assessment of the proposed changes.
