COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado ” Regis’ Evan Lloyd scored with 2:33 left in the first period to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead against Battle Mountain after the first 15 minutes of play in the state-championship hockey game at the World Arena in Colorado Springs Saturday.

The Raiders’ Nick Mohr started the sequence with a shot that Huskies goalie Kalen Burnett deflected with his left pad. But the rebound went out to Lloyd who went top shelf with the puck.

Both teams had power-play opportunities in the first period, but neither team capitalized. Regis outshot Battle Mountain, 8-5, during the period. Nevertheless, the Huskies skated well in the first period, seeming to have adjusted to the World Arena’s Olympic-sized ice surface.

Battle Mountain’s fans tailgated in the parking lot before the game and have a good-sized contingent on hand. The Huskies’ faithful had gongs, clappers and other assorted noisemakers as well as a grill going outside the arena before the game.
