Reid returns; Huskies hockey wins
The senior forward returned from a six-week absence due to a dislocated hip and celebrated his return with a goal as the Battle Mountain hockey cruised past Palmer 7-2 Friday night.
“It’s nice having him back,” Huskies coach Jade Kersey said. “It’s gives us more depth and allows us to run more lines out there. Steve was ready right off the bat and he had a good, first game.”
Reid wasn’t the only one having good game. Austin Chow and Jason Chase each had two goals as the Huskies’ offense seems to be in high gear coming down the stretch run.
“Austin had a great game. He was moving the puck really well,” Kersey said. “He had a couple of really nice goals. Same for Jason.”
Keith Denton added one and Nathan Simon cracked the scoresheet for the first time this season.
“Nate had a couple of chances and he finally buried one,” Kersey said. “You could see the weight come off his shoulders.”
Karl Eklund earned the win between the pipes with 12 saves.
The Huskies spent the night in the Springs and take on Liberty today at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KZYR 97.7 FM.
Ice Chips: Kersey’s three stars – No. 1, Chow, No. 2, Chase and No. 3, Simon. … The Huskies are using their first trip down to Colorado Springs as a scouting expedition also.
