Saints fall in overtime

OAK CREEK – Overtime wasn’t so nice to the Saints this time around.After 1A Vail Christian beat the Eagle Valley JV earlier this week in overtime, 2A Soroco returned the favor to the Saints. The Saints lost to the Rams, 68-67.Vail Christian led, 15-11, at the end of the first quarter, but Soroco came back to take a 33-26 lead at halftime.”We played OK in the first, but in the second quarter, we went to sleep,” said Vail Christian coach Sheldon Kuhns.Caleb Pearson had a team-high 27 points, but was on the bench in the second quarter with three fouls.”That’s when they got hot,” Kuhns said.In the third quarter, the Saints tied the game, and the teams traded points in the fourth quarter.”This team plays hard and has a never say die attitude,” Kuhns said. “We were down seven and stormed back.”Jaryd Francis, who had 16 points, fouled out of the game with three minutes to go.”Foul trouble hurt us,” Kuhns said. “And we also missed some easy shots. We played hard, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”Josh Sibley was in the double digits with 14 points, while Tim Ragan came off the bench to add seven points.The Vail Christian girls team also fell to Soroco, 55-45.Both the boys and girls host Coal Ridge Thursday, with the boys playing at 6:30 p.m. and the girls playing at 5 p.m.Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 14631, or icropp@vaildaily.com.Vail, Colorado
