Like any true Chicago Bears fan, Vail Christian senior Matthew Barry likes getting after it on defense. He’s a defensive end, but his favorite Bear is likely Brian Urlacher. That’s OK, We get the concept. And in even better news, since we interviewed him, Bears quarterback Rex Grossman has been benched. Barry and the rest of the Blue Crush will try to keep the good news coming when they host Victory Christian today at 1:30 p.m. in Gypsum. For more on Barry, read on:

Date of birth: Nov. 8, 1988

Born in: Chicago

Parents: Michael and Katherine

Siblings: Paul, Megan, Ryan and Breanna

What’s it like being the middle child? “You’re not the first blamed. You not the last to be blamed. You get away with some stuff, but you don’t get away with others. Your parents are experienced enough with two children. You can use excuses against your older brothers and blame my younger brother and sister, so it’s good. It’s a privileged position.”

What’s it like to be a senior? “It’s fun. It’s one more year until college. I can’t wait. But I wanted to come out and play football one year.”

Positions: Defensive end and guard

What’s the hitting like? “It’s fun. That’s why I’m sticking at it. I love hitting people. It’s become a passion now.”

How excited are you for Homecoming? “I can’t wait. It’s going to be a big game. We’ve got to win.”

What is this team like? “We’ve got four seniors, including me. We’ve got a good-sized team. It’s been fun. We’ve got a good team.”

Best moment in football: “Making big hits. When you break the line, and the guy’s right there, you just want to make a hit, cause a fumble.”

Most embarrassing moment: “I was first on the line on kick return. The ball came right toward me. At the same time, I fumbled the ball. They got the ball right back. It didn’t matter. We were winning, 42-8. At least, we got to play some defense, which is my favorite spot.”

What is coach Tim Pierson like? “He’s a good coach. He knows when to call good plays. We’ve had fun.”

Funniest teammate: Bubba Murray ” “He has a big belly and he’s fast. I don’t know how that goes together. He’s named ‘The Bus.’ He’s a force out there.”
