Saints, VMS soccer pick up wins

EDWARDS — Welcome to Vail Christian soccer, where the season seems to be condensed into about two weeks.
That said, it’s starting to go swimmingly. The Saints made it two in row with a 2-0 shutout of Rocky Mountain Lutheran on Friday at Freedom Park.
“It’s been really helpful to get in a routine and get some games going. Our girls are really understanding the game of soccer,” Saints coach Lauren Mutter said. “They are really performing at a higher level.”
And that’s a good thing because the Saints have six games in the next two weeks due to the joy of High Country spring weather.
Jessie Raitt and Abby Bossow had the goals. Meanwhle, the Saints are retooling the defense on the fly. Barbara O’Brien got the shutout, while Maddie Friel and Amanda Lingle were helping keep order.

The Saints’ marathon sprint continues today when Rangely comes to town. This game is at Battle Mountain at noon.
VMS goes to 10-0
BASALT — Vail Mountain School soccer will do nothing today.
There will be no bus rides. There will be not stops at fast-food restaurants. There will be no stops at gas stations.
The Gore Rangers finished off three road games in as many days with a 6-1 win at Basalt on Friday. That’s enough road-tripping until they head to Coal Ridge on May 3.
Emma Haynes, Anwyn Urquhart. Maria D’Andrea and Katie Alonzo all had goals in the rout of the Longhorns that pushed VMS to 10.
