DENVER, Colorado –As the Avalanche prepared to greet first-round draft choice Matt Duchene and 14 other prospects for this week’s development camp at the Family Sports Center, the team announced the signings of six players Monday – most notably holdover winger David Jones.

Jones, who played three seasons at Dartmouth before signing with Colorado in 2007, had eight goals and five assists in 40 games for Colorado last season, sliding from as high as the first line to as low as in the doghouse before he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in January. He became a restricted free agent July 1.

“We feel that bringing David back helps to solidify our lineup,” general manager Greg Sherman said. “In addition, we’ve added to our organizational depth with this group of signings.”

The other announced signings included holdover winger Brian Willsie; perennial minor-league star Darren Haydar, who scored 31 goals for the Detroit Red Wings’ American Hockey League affiliate last season; and three players who spent most or all of last season with Lake Erie – centers Chris Durno and Matt Hendricks and goaltender Tyler Weiman.
