Ski and Snowboard Club Vail gets dual golds at Junior Olympics
Vail, CO Colorado
WINTER PARK – Once is definitely cool, but two gold medals are twice as nice.
Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Megan McGrew and River Radamus both topped the podium in super-G on Day 1 of the J4 Rocky/Central Junior Olympics Thursday in Winter Park.
“It was so cool to see the SSCV team be so excited to get out of the start and on the course to rip it up,” said coach Karen Ghent.
The J4 girls kicked out of the start gate first in this opening race, and McGrew, starting in the No. 1 spot, took the course in 59.53 seconds, the only girl in the field to break the 1-minute mark. Other SSCV girls making it to the first page of results included Sarah Tyree in sixth, Camilla Trapness 11th, Abigail Murer 13th, and Heidi Livran in 14th.
For the J4 boys, River Radamus turned his start No. 7 into a first place scorching the track in 58.53 to make SSCV 2-for-2 on the day. Woody Scruggs and Jack Keane also broke into the top 10, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.
“It’s amazing to have double wins in these Junior Olympics with the best J4 racers from both the Rocky and Central Divisions,” said coach Perry Kleeman. “Karen and I are so proud of these athletes for digging deep to come up with these results.”
In New Hampshire, SSCV’s Taylor Rapley came up with her own win racing in the TD Eastern Cup slalom at Cranmore Mountain.
Rapley took a commanding lead of more than 2 seconds in her first run and was able to parlay that into a first-place finish for the day.
Coach Nick Foster said that this is an awesome result for Taylor.
