Ski and Snowboard Club Vail on a tear in Telluride

TELLURIDE, Colorado ” Ski and Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) continued to rack up impressive results at the Jim Drew Memorial/Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup on Monday. Both the boys and girls’ teams placed five racers in the top 15 in the slalom race.

Bryan Shpall led the way for SSCV on the boys’ side with a fifth-place finish. Shpall ran an impressive second run in 38.11 seconds for a combined time of 1:17.55. Cory McConnell was right behind Shpall in sixth place.

A trio of SSCV skiers did well to claim spots in the top 15. Sam Coffey finished with a combined time of 1:18.34 for 11th. Nathan Asoian took 13th place after skiing to a time of 1:18.48.

Taylor Shiffrin (14th) rounded out the SSCV racers in the top 15 with a time of 1:18.52. Shiffrin’s time was good enough to finish second in the J2 category.

Girls run fast

The SSCV girls stuck together in their slalom race on Monday. Whitney Setterberg, Alice Ralston and Delainey Ackerman finished back-to-back-to-back. Setterberg led SSCV in sixth place with a combined time of 1:26.63.

Ralston (1:27.37) and Ackerman (1:27.50) weren’t far behind.

Liz Strong also ran an impressive race for SSCV. A fast second run (42.60) propelled Strong to 13th place overall. Mary Sackbauer claimed 15th place for SSCV.
