Ski and Snowboard Club Vail had several athletes in Winter Park last weekend competing in the University of Denver Invitational. Racing against some of the best college teams in the Nation, with skiers hailing from eight different countries, Saturday’s slalom saw the SSCV women with some standout results.

Byrne really found her grove toward the bottom of her first run, and, coupled with a solid second run (11th fastest), she was able to move up in the field to 15th place overall, and first for the J2 women. Whitney Setterberg also mixed it up with this very competent international field. Setterberg had a pretty rough course on her first run, but rebounded nicely. With the 12th-fastest time for the second run, Setterberg moved up 12 places from her starting position of 35 to place 23rd overall and second for the J1 women.

SSCV’s J4 and J5 skiers were at Eldora with two races each on Saturday and Sunday.

Karen Ghent, alpine program director for SSCV and a coach at these races, said on Sunday, “It was great to see the depth in the group today. The courses were demanding and the kids had to earn their wins with technically sound skiing. We are so proud of them all.”
