Ski and Snowboard Club Vail soars at Aspen

ASPEN, Colorado ” On the same track that was once called America’s Downhill on the World Cup circuit, the athletes of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail ripped up the course Wednesday on Ruthie’s Run in Aspen.

“They were really going for it today,” Dan Stripp, SSCV’s head alpine coach said.

For the SSCV men in the first downhill of the day, John Kemp took first; Sam Coffey placed second and Nathan Asoian was fourth.

For the women in first downhill, Julia Littman, former SSCV athlete, and current member of the U.S. Ski Team placed second. SSCV had four women in the top 15: Abby Ghent third, Greta Byrne sixth, Mary Sackbauer seventh, and Kaytlyn Samuelson eighth.

For the SSCV men in downhill No. 2, Nathan Asoian was second, and Sam Coffey placed third.

Littman placed third in the second women’s downhill. Other SSCV women in DH No. 2: Kaytlyn Samuelson seventh, Greta Byrne eighth, Mary Sackbauer 10th, and Jocelyn Irwin 15th.

SSCV’s women’s coach Krissie Poehling said, “All of the SSCV skiers stepped up to their game on today’s course.”

Today, the men and women gear up for a super combined super-G and slalom.
