Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Ghent 4th in Surefoot GS
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL – According to coach Robin Chace, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Abby Ghent had the race of her life in the giant slalom of the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Championships at Vail Thursday.
Ghent had a great first run to put her into 10th, but her second run down the track set her apart from the rest of the field packed with U.S. Ski Team members and top collegiate athletes.
Ghent charged the course on her second trip down the track to finish only 0.08 seconds behind Olympian Sarah Schleper, a former SSCV athlete herself. The two runs, when combined, brought Ghent from a starting position of 22 to a finish of fourth overall for the day. Sarah Schleper took first, helping lower the FIS points for the field. U.S. Ski Team member Megan McJames placed second, and University of Colorado’s Katie Hartman took third.
“Abby had an awesome result against a very strong field,” said Chace.
SSCV’s Kaytlyn Samuelson finished third for the J2 women and 21st overall, while Whitney Setterberg was 22nd, and Mary Sackbauer 23rd.
The men’s Surefoot Championships took place at Breckenridge, and Nathan Asoian took his place on the first page of results finishing in 15th.
The Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Championships continue today with a GS for the women at Vail and a GS for the men at Breckenridge.
