Ski Club Vail kids win team trophy at Powderhorn

VAIL, Colorado -Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Ski Club’s J5 team headed to Powderhorn ski area this past weekend to attend this season’s J5 Festival for two runs of giant slalom racing on Saturday and two runs of slalom on Sunday. After all the runs were scored, Ski Club went home with the first-place team trophy for the weekend.”This J5 team has been a dream come true,” said their coach Rika Moore. “The conditions were tough in Sunday’s race. With wet snow falling, mixed with some fog, the racers could only see five gates in front of them. The kids really stepped it up though and excelled beyond my expectations. I am so proud of these young ski racers.”Saturday morning’s giant slalom run for the girl’s saw Sylka Snyder in sixth, Gabrielle Myers in 18th, Elisa Viola in 19th and Kendra Hoyt in 20th. For the afternoon race, Nellie Rose Talbot placed second, Brianna Trudeau came in fourth and Sylka Snyder was 13thSaturday’s morning run for the boys saw Ski Club take 7 of the top 20 spots with Brendan Keane in third, Chadwick Mulligan, fourth, Peer Carnes, fifth, Jacob Diling, 11th, Gus Leblanc, 14th, Flinn lazier, 15th, and Patrick Scruggs finishing 20th. In the boy’s afternoon run, Ski Club took seven of the top 11 spots with Colby Lange in first, Brendan Keane in second, Peer Carnes and Gus Leblanc tied for seventh, Patrick Scruggs took ninth, Flinn Lazier took 10th, and Jake Dippy placed 11th.For the girl’s Sunday morning slalom, Brianna Trudeau took first, Kendra Hoyt was eighth, and Zoe Livran placed 17th. The afternoon girls run had Nellie Rose Talbot in first, Brianna Trudeau, fifth, Kendra Hoyt, ninth, Gabrielle Myers, 14th, and Zoe Livran in 22nd.Sunday’s morning slalom for the boys saw Ski Club pack eight skiers into the top 14 places. Colby Lange lead the charge with a first place, Patrick Scruggs took third, Jacob Dilling was fourth, Jake Dippy, Gus Leblanc, Flinn Lazier, and Brendan Keane took seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th respectively, while Peer Carnes placed 14th. In the afternoon slalom, Colby Lange took his second first place of the day, Brendan Keane and Jacob Dilling took third and fourth, Gus Leblanc was fifth, Flinn Lazier took seventh, Peer Carnes was 13th, Maxwell Pierce placed 18th and Max Bervy finished 20th.Other members of the Ski Club J5 team attending this event include Tessa Alverez, Anneli Holm, Olivia Clauss, Elizabeth Clauss, Katie Collins, Halsey Lucas, and Peter Littman.
