Ski Club Vail’s Ravelo has back-to-back wins at Winter Park
Vail, CO Colorado
WINTER PARK, Colorado – Ski and Snowboard Club Vail had its freeride and snowboard teams at Winter Park this past weekend for a USASA boardercross and skier cross competition, and the team came away with some great results.
Saturday’s contest saw Christhian Ravelo take first in the skiercross event for the men’s open skier division.
For the snowboard team, Jack Coyne took second for the 8- and 9-year-old boys, Cameron Chaney was second for the 10- and 11-year-old boys, Isabelle Deforest placed fourth for the 12- and 13-year-old girls, Will Harris finished third for the 12- and 13-year-old boys, and Corey Steinke took third for the 14- and 15-year-old men.
According to coach Jeremiah Paquette, the course took a beating after 80-plus competitors took several practice and time trial runs.
“The SSCV skiers and snowboarders were able to charge through the chop,” Paquette said. “I was really impressed with how well the team handled the course, especially after only one day of training.”
On Day 2 of the competition, the snowboard team had Cameron Chaney take first for the 10- and 11-year-old boys, Senna Leith finishing third for the 12- and 13-year-old boys, Steinke placed third for the 14- and 15-year-old men, and Emily Duncan placed fourth for the 12- and 13-year-old girls.
In the skiercross open men’s division, Ravelo scored his second win in as many days.
“I’m stoked about my wins,” Ravelo said. “The course was pretty technical. It was quick and fast, with some rollers that were close together and easy to overshoot.”
