Snowboarders are needed for SCV

About 30 young men and women interested in competing and learning the technical aspects of boarding have signed up for the coming season, but program coaches Ben Boyd and Nathan Park are looking for intermediate-level riders and above to sign up.

“We’re flexible,” Boyd said. “Anybody interested in a bit more technical program should come by. This is already one of the best programs in the state.”

Riders like Deacon Maloney, Lindsey Telling, Sabrina Saint Marie and Caitlin Rapsin all have joined the program and bring with them experience from national competitions.

For the first time in SCV’s 40-year history, snowboarders will get the chance to train as hard as the alpine skiers, as the program is already looking towards the Western Regionals in Telluride in February and Nationals in Maine in March.

The season will primarily be based around Snowboard Outreach Society events this winter.

Coaches Boyd and Park have both lived in the Vail area for years and bring with them years of teaching and coaching with the International Snowboarding Federation.

Jason Rutherford, the new freestyle coach at SCV, is also looking for athletes to fill out his team.
