Summer youth sports campsRegistration for the Vail Recreation District’s (VRD) youth summer sports camps is underway and will include baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer and lacrosse, plus performance enhancement and sports training camps. Men’s LeagueThe Vail Golf Club is now accepting applications for the 2006 Men’s League. Weekly events are played on Wednesdays, with a total of 23 events throughout the season. Dues for the season are $85, which includes U.S.G.A. handicap. Greens fees are $35 per player ($54 with golf car) and $25 entry fee for each event. Prizes include closet to the pin, skins and golf shop certificates to the low net and gross players. Games will be played in Edwards, Eagle and Gypsum through the end of May. Game pay ranges from $20 to $35 per game depending on the level of play. Levels range from 2nd grade to high school boys and girls. Please call Scott Ruff at 328-5277 to apply.Women’s HockeyVRD Summer League has preeason drop-in hockey sessions. Come play hockey for free and meet other women hockey players from around the valley. Dobson will also be taking registrations for the summer league starting June 5. For more information please call 479-2271 or visit us at http://www.vailrec.com.Summer ice skating programThe Vail Recreation District (VRD) will offer a new ice skating program this summer with an emphasis on performance skills versus competition skills. ShowTime Skating will teach according to skating level and include rehearsal time, costume design, music selection, choreography and a public performance during the Fourth of July weekend. Registration is underway and classes begin June 12 with various skate times as follows: Week one: June 12 – 15, Week two: June 19 – 22, Week three: June 26 – 29, Dress rehearsal: June 30 or July 1. The cost for ShowTime Skating is $90 for one performance or $130 for two performances and includes ice time, instruction, costumes and skate rentals. The program culminates with a skating performance on July 2 at Dobson Ice Arena during the Vail America Days celebration. Sponsorships are available for the program. Registration deadline is May 12. Additionally, the VRD’s annual summer skating camp is scheduled for June 12 through Aug. 17.VRD SoftballThe Vail Recreation District (VRD) is accepting team registration for its adult summer softball leagues on a first-come, first-served basis. To register stop by the VRD Sports Office at the Ford Park Tennis Center, located at 700 South Frontage Road East, or go online at http://www.vailrec.com. Cost for team registration is $500 for VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit; or $550 for non-VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit. Registration closes May 19. The leagues are as follows: Men’s A League will play Mondays beginning June 5, Coed Recreation Leagues will play Mondays or Wednesdays beginning June 5, Men’s E League will play Tuesdays beginning June 6, Vail Business League (Men’s, any local business welcome) will play Thursdays beginning June 8. The leagues will end in the middle of August and all games will be held at Ford Athletic Fields at 5:30 or 6:45 pm. Games will begin the week of May 8. The following leagues will be offered: Co-Rec Mondays, Co-Rec Fridays, Men’s B-Rec, Men’s C Rec, Men’s Comp and Women’s. Teams will play 11 league games plus playoffs. Team fee is $395 plus umpire fees of $20 per game. The preseason tournament will be May 2-6. Men’s Comp, Men’s Rec and Co-Rec divisions will be offered. Team fees are $75 plus umpire fees. Cost for team registration is $550 and payment is required at the time of registration. The registration deadline is Friday, May 12. Games are played on Mondays at 5:30 or 7:00 pm beginning June 5th at Miller Ranch on the Middle and East Fields. A minimum of three females are required on the field.Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling The Little Husky wrestling program is back at Battle Mountain High School. The program will be run in 2 sessions, both of which meet on Tuesday and Thursday.
