Squirt B’s win as Sportsmanship continues

Daily Staff Report

The Vail Squirt B’s were chanting “S.O.S.” after their game with the Denver Country Club Friday in pool play of the 2003 Vail Sportsmanship Tournament at Dobson.

Their ship didn’t need saving. Quite to the contrary. Vail knocked off DCC, 12-0, to move to 1-1 in the tournament.

The “S.O.S.” cheer was for “ShutOut, Steve,” as in Vail goalie Steve Parra.

After falling, 2-0, to Boulder earlier in the day, the young Mountaineers came out with everything against DCC.

Andrew Claymon had a hat trick, while both Elliot Simon and Daniel Westerberg had two goals and an assist each. Aaron Lewis, Ben Hymes, Will Hymes, Rudi Baldwin and Erik Hill all lit the lamp.

Other members of the mighty Squirt B’s include Otto Jordan, Garrett Funk Jason Engle, Bjorn Bredeson, Michael Wilhelm, Carter Peel and Karl Norris.

The Squirt B’s take on Hyland today at 11:20 a.m., and Pueblo at 6 p.m. The top two teams from the Squirt division meet in the finals on Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

The Vail Bantam A’s dropped a 3-0 decision to Colorado Springs Gold Friday, but had a chance to bounce back late Friday night against DCC. The Bantam A’s take on Front Range today at 1:30 p.m., followed by Colorado Springs Black at 9:20 p.m. The Bantam championship game is at 3:45 p.m., on Sunday.

Foster Fox, Eric Young, Niklas Porter, Andreas Apostol, Blake Armstrong, Kodi Wyatt, Barrett Chow, Casey Kleisinger, Jason Funk, John Ryan Melzer and Taylor Beairsto make up the Bantam A’s’ roster.

Meanwhile, the Vail U-19 girls team got the day off after its 3-2 opening win over Summit Thursday. The ladies have an early wakeup call today for an 8:10 a.m. affair with the Colorado Selects. The U-19’s then renew their rivalry with Aspen at 3:40 p.m. The U-19 title game is on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Your U-19’s are Tessa McSpadden, Keegan Garnsey, Desi Smith, Brittany Peterson, Lauren Arnold, Hillary Gallegos, Kelly Davis, Christina Jacobson, Kris Caples, Molly Etters, Jessica Jacobson, Brittany Wright, Molly Goodman, Katie Gray and Tasha Wyatt.
