SSCV makes moves through moguls at Rocky Mountain Freestyle DEVO and RQS finals
McGuires and Highum impress in Telluride
Moguls athletes took a trip to Telluride to compete in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle (RMF) Rocky Development Series (DEVO) and (Rocky Qualifier Series) RQS finals. Overall, the successful weekend for SSCV athletes of all skill levels culminated a great season.
The RMF RQS series finals took place on March 11 for moguls and March 13 for dual moguls. This level of competition is a stepping stone between the other two series, DEVO and COMP, allowing mogul athletes ages 11 and older as of December 31 who are not competing in the DEVO series or more than one COMP series opportunity to compete in a two-jump timed competition.
The RMF DEVO series finals took place on March 12 for moguls and March 13 for dual moguls. This level of competition provides the opportunity for younger mogul athletes to begin their competition experience in an age-appropriate realistic format.
On March 11, the open moguls day of the RQS finals competition, SSCV’s Ashlyn Highum came in seventh place for the girls. As for the boys, Riley McQuire grabbed seventh and Mica Torres came in first place for his U11 age group and 24th overall. As for the dual moguls the following day, McQuire grabbed a solid fourth place overall for the boys, and Highum came in eighth for the girls.
As for the DEVO finals competition, Stella McGuire snagged a win in the F11 open moguls on March 12.

“All of the Vail athletes skied well in Telluride and I was very proud of their effort. It was easily the most difficult course of the season both for the RQS and Devo competitions,” said Brad Kruez, SSCV Head Mogul Development Coach
“Riley McGuire and Ash Highum brought the heat through five rounds in one of the best duals days I’ve seen in years. Ash was the real stand-out for me – in her first year of competition she’s shown the Rocky freestyle community that she’s a threat and I have high hopes for her and the rest of the team next season.”
