SSCV names new freestyle and alpine ability coaches

Daily Staff Writer

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) executive director Aldo Radamus announced on Monday new head coaches for the freestyle and alpine ability programs.

Assuming the responsibility as head alpine ability coach is Ben Webster. Now in his third season coaching at SSCV, Webster was formerly a nationally recognized competitor from New York state and a graduate of Burke Mt. Academy and Middlebury College, both in Vermont. Webster began his coaching career in Steamboat and, after a stint with Elan Skis in product development, returned to coaching in 2002. He replaces Ethan Beck who relocated this past spring to the Portland, Ore., area after eight years with SSCV.

Brian Baker, also in his third year with SSCV, has assumed the head coach’s position in freestyle from Troy Benson who will remain with the club as head mogul team coach. Baker will oversee all freestyle programs including the mogul team, freeride team and development team. Promoted to the position of head freeride team coach is second-year SSCV coach Bart Snyder.

“Ben, Brian and Bart have proven their passion for their sports and their commitment to the community and the kids of SSCV,” Radamus said. “We are fortunate to have such knowledgeable and passionate coaches to work with our alpine and freestyle skiers. Each of them is excited about creating locally focused, world class programs here in Vail.”
