SSCV shines at Breck races
Breckenridge hosted an age class kombi race last weekend. A combi race incorporates multiple alpine disciplines in one course. Sunday’s race started with slalom turns, moved to giant-slalom turns, back to slalom, again to GS, and finishing with super-G turns. Kombi races are part of the international circuit also, with races at the Topolino Trials in Italy for J3s, and the Whistler Invitational in British Columbia-open to J3s and J4s. At Breckenridge’s Kombi event, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail boys and girls had five podiums and 18 top-15 finishes.On Day 1, SSCV’s Kendall VanHee was third with Eva Spaeh right behind in fourth. For the boys, Brinton Barry was second and Alex Leever was fourth. Day 2 saw SSCV’s Thomas Walsh in second and Leever in third. On the girls’ side, Celine Guilineau came in second with Spaeh, less than 0.5 seconds back, in fifth.Other notable finishes include Megan McGrew with a seventh and a ninth, Leah Newton finishing strongly with an eighth and 12th, Nick Santaniello with a fifth and a seventh, and Nick Braun with a seventh.
