Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Brooklyn DePriest finished with a 148.25 score to take fifth place in the big air competition at the FIS Park and Pipe Junior World Championships on Sunday in Cardrona, New Zealand. Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa (184.25), New Zealand’s Rocco Jamieson (162.00) and Italy’s Ian Matteoli (157.00) comprised the podium.
DePriest was second in the qualifier on Saturday, dropping a score of 85.00 to finish only behind Hasegawa (90.00). The 17-year-old, who notched three top-three finishes in the 2023 NorAm Cups and was the National Champion in slopestyle at Copper Mountain, also finished sixth place in the slopestyle competition earlier in the week.
Of the seven 15-18-year-old Americans selected to compete in New Zealand, four hailed from Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. Oliver Martin finished 17th, just missing the 14-athlete final, while fellow SSCV athletes Evan Wrobel took 43rd and Tyler Hayden claimed 51st in the qualification.
