Stevenson leads the way for Huskies in Leadville
LEADVILLE – It was an off day by Battle Mountain cross country standards, but then those standards these days are pretty high.
Against 4A and 5A competition Saturday at Leadville, the Huskies boys finished fourth, while the girls took fifth.
“It was a hard day of racing. It was a tough course at 10,000 feet,” Huskies coach Rob Parish said. “But it was good for the kids to see the teams they want to compete with at state.”
The boys finished behind 4A state champion Liberty, Woodland Park (seventh at state last year) and 5A Dakota Ridge. Grant Stevenson led the way for the Huskies in fourth place with a time of 19 minutes and 6 seconds. Ben Rogers of Eagle Valley and Zach Erickson finished 14th and 15th with times of 19:54 and 19:59, respectively. Jonathan Stevens made his varsity debut,
