Tennessee Pass snowshoe race Saturday

EAGLE COUNTY — If you’re looking for a great way to spend a day outdoors with friends, while contributing to a great cause, then you’ll want to be lined up at the start of the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse 5K/10K Saturday at 10 a.m. This is the fifth and final event in the 2017 Pedal Power Winter Race Series.

Each year, proceeds from the race series go to support Eagle and Lake County charities. Proceeds from this event will go to support scholarships to be awarded to Eagle and Lake County high school mountain bike racers as they continue on to college.

Race director Bruce Kelly praised the winter’s abundant snowfall for this final event. “Mother nature has smiled upon us again this year and conditions for the event should be absolutely prime, with plenty of snow providing beautiful course conditions,” Kelly said. “This fundraiser is perfect for enjoying a variety of forested and open terrain, along with some amazing and views along the Continental Divide.”

Racers can experience an adventurous, 5K fun-run track, set up to suit the more casual snowshoer as it wends its way through the pine forests and meadows of Tennessee Pass along the Continental Divide. Those seeking more of a challenge can tackle the 10K course, which will also serve as the official Colorado State Championships, determining the top men’s and women’s snowshoers in the state, with the winners of each category earning the Colorado state title.

All of the participants will enjoy a fantastic post-race lunch provided by the staff of the hosting Tennessee Pass Cookhouse, along with awards for top three finishers in each category.

Racers will meet at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, between Interstate 70 and Leadville. Pre-registration for this event is $20 and racers can register on the day of the race for $25. Participants can also register directly online at http://www.pedalpowerbike.com or get forms at Pedal Power Bicycle Shop in Eagle-Vail by calling 970-845-0931.
