Teva Trail Running Series hits Vail Mountain Sunday

VAIL “The longest race in the Teva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series, the Teva Vail HalfMarathon, starts at 8 a.m. Sunday.

This 13-mile route takes runners from the base of Vail Mountain to the summit on service roads and single-track trails. The elevation gain is approximately 3,100 feet, but the grade is fairly gentle for the majority of the route.

Unlike in previous years, the race starts at Gold Peak behind the Children’s Center.

The base elevation is approximately 8,217 feet. Aid stations will be located on course providing water and Gatorade. Water will be available at the start line, where runners can also drop their sweats, or dry clothes to be transported to the finish line. In addition, there are refreshments at the finish line and goody bags for all finishers.

Awards will be presented at the finish line, which is located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola at Eagle’s Nest. The top three male and female finishers overall will receive gift certificates for Teva footwear, while the top three finishers in each age group (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+) will also receive gift certificates.

After the awards ceremony, runners can ride the Gondola back to Vail Village, or log more miles if they choose to run back to the Village.

The Teva Vail HalfMarathon is followed by the Teva Tiga Berry Picker (5K/10K) on Aug. 13. The fifth and final event, the Teva Joint Worx EverGold 10K, is on Sept. 10. Series awards will be presented at the final event during the race awards ceremony.

Individual race entry is $25 or $35 on race day. You can register at, print out an entry form at and mail, or fax your completed entry, or stop by Vail Recreation District at 700 South Frontage Road East. You can register and pick up your runner number for the HalfMarathon at VRD today between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Registration is available on race morning between 6:45 and 7:45 a.m. There is free parking at the Vail Village Parking Structure.
