Daily Staff Report
Vail, CO Colorado
Special to the Daily Vail Twin Peaks made the finals of the Mountain League for the first time in team history.

The Vail Twin Peaks Women’s Hockey Team skated to second place in the Mountain League Tournament of the Women’s Association of Colorado Hockey (WACH) held in Aspen.

The Mountain League consists of seven teams from Vail, Eagle, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Craig and two teams from Steamboat Springs.

The Vail Twin Peaks started the tournament with a 2-2 tie against the home team, Aspen Mother Puckers. Twin Peaks then played three games in six hours and beat the Steamboat Edge 3-0, the Glenwood Springs Ice Queens, 3-1, and the Steamboat Storm, 5-2.

Vail advanced to the championship game against its archrival, the Craig Puck Ewes. Twin Peaks lost the championship game, 1-0, a hard-fought battle against Craig. This was the Vail Twin Peaks first appearance in the Mountain League’s Championship game.

Started in 2001, the Vail Twin Peaks Women’s Hockey Team consists of 18 players ranging ages 21-61 and plays at Dobson Ice Arena. Their team was instrumental in starting the WACH Mountain League in an effort to encourage women’s mountain hockey and to travel less to the Front Range.

Twin Peaks are coached by Travis Fleury, Head Coach, Tony Ricca and Josh Stocks. Twin Peaks sponsors include Pazzos, New World Sound, RTP, Alpine Bank, West Vail Liquor Mart, Vail Summit Orthopaedics, and Vail Valley OB GYN Associates.
