U-12’s win first game
The Vail U-12 girls hockey team recorded their first win of the young season at Dobson on Sunday. The Mountaineers avenged an earlier loss to Summit with 4-0 shutout. Vail’s three first period goals set the tone for the game, as Maggie Sherman scored first, off a nice feed from Emma Porter. Two minutes later, Emily Goodman notched her first of two with help from Maddie Stevens. Kate Gray led the defense in the first and held Summit to no shots on goal. She was assisted by McKenzie O’Brien who showed great hustle. Stevens got Vail’s third goal unassisted to end the scoring in the first period. An evenly played second period found Vail scoring late to go up 4-0 as Goodman found the net after being set up by Stevens. In the third period, Summit managed to test Vail goalie Ryley McMillan with a couple of shots but the Vail defense was strong with Bridget Moffet and Porter stopping the attack. Playing her best game of the season Eva Spaeh was all over the ice helped by newcomers Claire Jaicks and Moira Laughlin. Emily Young moved well into the offensive zone and Lane Sheldon showed some puck-handling skills. The Vail U-12’s will face Steamboat at Dobson Sunday.
