Vail Christian sweeps North Park
Vail, CO Colorado
EDWARDS, Colorado ” That was fast.
The Vail Christian volleyball team must have been in a hurry to get ready for the Homecoming dance. At least, that’s what it looked like from the Saints’ performance Saturday.
Vail Christian cruised to a three-game sweep over North Park, 25-18, 25-10, 25-14, in a match that lasted barely over 45 minutes long.
“To put together a win like that today, with how sharp they were today, with Homecoming and everything, is tough,” Vail Christian coach Cathy Alexander said. “My seniors led the way. I’m really proud of them.”
After cruising to a first-game victory, seniors Allie Parker and Sammy Francis took over in Game 2. Francis made it 5-1 Vail Christian with a kill. Later, she notched three-straight winners to make it 19-9.
Parker led Vail Christian with 12 kills in the match. Francis notched eight winners.
Later in Game 2, Brook Bowles slammed the ball to the floor to push the Saints’ lead to 23-10. Francis followed Bowles with a tip for a point and a 24-10 lead.
“(Sammy and Allie) did a fantastic job,” Alexander said. “They were leaders. They stepped it up in the last two weeks. That’s when we stepped up our play, and put it all together.”
Vail Christian continued to make quick work of North Park in Game 3. Francis notched a pair of winners to make it 4-0. Bowles hit two aces to stretch the lead to 8-0.
North Park did its best to fight back, but it wasn’t enough. Parker connected for a kill for a 22-12 advantage. The senior ended the game with another spike to give the Saints the match.
Vail Christian (7-9) is at Plateau Valley on Tuesday.
