VAIL – The Vail Golf Club will kick off its 46th season offering access to the driving range Saturday, followed by nine holes April 13.

Rates start at $25 for walking and $37 with cart for “All You Can Play.” Golf course crews hope to open the remaining holes in the next few weeks.

According to Vail Golf Club director Alice Plain, due to lower than average snowfall, golf course maintenance crews clearing greens, cart paths and a variety of other work to make the course ready for play so early

“Our golf maintenance team has been doing an amazing job in preparing the course for next week’s opening,” said Plain. “This will be a very early opening for the Vail Golf Club and our guests and locals will have the unique opportunity to ski and golf in the same day.”

The driving range will be open from 10 a.m. to dusk daily.

VRD softball registration starts April 18

The Vail Recreation District (VRD) will begin accepting registration for its adult summer softball leagues on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 8 a.m. on April 18 at the VRD administration office, located at 700 S. Frontage Rd.. East, adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields.

Cost for team registration is $525 for VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit; or $575 for non-VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit. Payment is required at the time of registration.

The leagues and team space availability are as follows:

• Coed: Recreation leagues will start play June 4 (Mondays) and May 30 (Wednesdays) with 12 team spaces available each day

• Men’s ppen league will play Tuesdays, beginning May 29 with 12 team spaces available

• Vail business league (men’s) will play Thursdays, beginning May 31 with 12 team spaces available

All games will be played at the Ford Park softball fields. Players must be 18 years or older and each team must have a minimum of eight players to finish the game.

Each league consists of a regular season followed by playoffs.
