Day 6 of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout was also Day 1 for the men’s and women’s elite fields started play Thursday. It was “moving day” for both divisions, so expect more competitive action today in the quarterfinals for both groups. Men’s eliteMost of the top seeds moved through on Day 1 of the Men’s Elite tournament. Merrill Lynch/Lacrossewear and Team 21, the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, both took a little time to get moving against the play-in winners, but both pulled away to move to the quarterfinals. Team Sasquatch won the first game of the day in double overtime with a two-point goal in the most exciting game of an otherwise workmanlike day. One of the stronger teams looks to be Maverik Elite, which features Jovan Miller and John Galloway (current Syracuse players), Casey Powell and Sean Lindsey (old Syracuse players) and great players up and down the roster. Merrill Lynch/Lacrossewear is likely the other favorite, but it took them some time to get it going against Sasquatch. The East Coast Kings won 16-12 against the Olympic Club and should give Team 21 a game today in the quarterfinals.
