Vail Mountain School soccer falls 3-0 at Basalt
BASALT — Take No. 2 is Oct. 12
Vail Mountain School soccer lost a tough one at Basalt, 3-0, Tuesday. This was actually scoreless at the half, so the Gore Rangers probably played better than the score indicated.
One nice note is that usually slow-starting VMS (4-3) actually came out blazing.
“We came out strong,” VMS coach Pete Petrovski said. “We had three really good scoring chances early. One hit the bar and the other two were just wide. We played really well.”
The issue was depth. A small school in 3A, VMS is a bit dinged up health-wise, and that caught up with the Gore Rangers in the final 20 minutes of the second half.
This was the first of two with Basalt, so this was the nonleague contest. The two teams meet Oct. 12 at historic Bandoni Alumni Field in the one that counts. Speaking of 3A Slope play, VMS finally gets going in earnest with league games, starting today at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School. Six of the Gore Rangers’ last seven contests are 3A Slope games.
