Vail Mountain School soccer rolls past Arrupe

EAST VAIL — A team can get a little complacent with nine days between games.
Vail Mountain School soccer was most definitely not complacent. The Gore Rangers came roaring out of the gate on Saturday at Bandoni Alumni Field, blitzing Arrupe Jesuit, 7-0.
“We came out firing,” VMS coach Pete Petrovski said. “We talked about that in our preparation, exerting our will on the other team. The boys did that very well.”
Max Bervy to Peter Ferraro started it in the fifth. A minute later, Kevin Garcia fed Christian Trevino. Eric Zdechlik scored the third on a nifty pass from Nathan Rouaud, who had two helpers on the day.
Kevin Garcia scored on a free kick to give VMS a 4-0 halftime lead. Liam Hurley scored twice, courtesy of Ferraro, to start the second 40 minutes. Wyatt Hall, a freshman, scored his first varsity goal to round out the scoring.

Vail Mountain (2-1) has another week off before hosting Basalt in a nonconference game.
Huskies blank Palisade
EDWARDS — Battle Mountain soccer should beat Palisade.
On Saturday, it was how the Huskies took care of the Bulldogs, 6-0, in Edwards. Battle Mountain scored in first, fifth and seventh minutes. That’s putting away a team.
Creek Kamby got the first going an assist from goalie Alan Villegas. Remember, you cannot stop Villegas. You can only hope to contain him.
Cody Bahan got the next two, one from David Barajas and the other from Taylor Staughton. Speaking of Staughton, he scored the goal of the game. He had an overlapping run and received the ball from Juan Macias. Staughton did a little spin move and buried his shot.
Juan Macias converted a penalty kick and Brandon Rodriguez finished off the Bulldogs.
Battle Mountain (3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Slope) hosts Summit County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and then welcomes The Classical Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
Holy Family beats Devils
GYPSUM — Eagle Valley soccer’s hard-luck season continued on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Holy Family.
Juan Garduno scored for Eagle Valley (2-3).
“We have to keep working hard,” Devils coach Bratzo Horruitiner said. “We need to stay unified. I believe this team is playing great, even compared to last year.”
The Devils are at Glenwood Springs on Thursday.
