Vail Mountain School soccer triumphs over Aspen

EAST VAIL — As all those who have played, “Vail Mountain School Soccer: The Home Game,” know, “Triumph and Disaster” are “impostors just the same,” according to Rudyard Kipling.
That said, triumph is better.
And with that we give you Vail Mountain School girls soccer’s 2-0 victory over Aspen on Thursday at the literary turf that is Bandoni Alumni Field.
Tess Johnson scored in the first half and Maddie Cooper struck in the second. That runs Vail Mountain School’s record to 3-0, a trivial note with regard to the “prophet of British imperialism,” yet nonetheless important with regard to the Gore Rangers attempting to repeat in the 3A/2A Slope.
“I was happy with the second half, which was better than the first half,” VMS coach Bob Bandoni said. “The team is learning and on a steep curve. We’re introducing new players into the system and tweaking the system. We still have a ways to go with chemistry. The players have the right picture in their minds. We need to execute that with more speed.”

In fairness to the team, having games every other day and with the weather being its usual Colorado self, it’s been hard to VMS to do the training necessary for such.
That’s a nice way of saying that the Gore Rangers were scheduled to play Vail Christian at The Bob on Saturday, the team’s third game in five days, in Michael Busenhart’s coaching debut. But Boozi will have to wait as that has been snowed out.
