Vail Mountain tennis finishes 2nd in regionals
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado –The Vail Mountain School tennis team took second place at regionals for the second year in a row behind always favorite Steamboat. VMS qualified all three singles players to state, which takes place this week in Pueblo: Shannen McNamara at No. 1 singles, Annika Trapness at No. 2 and Beri Dwyer at No. 3. This is the second year in a row that these three players have qualified for state. VMS had a chance of qualifying its No. 1 doubles team of Sheena Feiler and Jessica Gilbert and No. 4 doubles team of Thea Knobel and Nicole Byrne, but they lost in their final play back matches.
Overall, on the final day, VMS was in the finals at five positions out of seven but could not manage to win any of these matches so we took second place at No. 1 singles (McNamara), No. 2 singles (Trapness), No. 3 singles (Dwyer), No. 1 doubles (Feiler and Gilbert) and No. 4 doubles (Knobel and Byrne). Our No. 3 doubles team of Emily Domke and Hannah Ellison came back through playbacks and took third place overall and our No. 3 doubles team, Sarah Cochran and Caroline Carlson, got to the semi-finals of the main draw with two great wins but then lost and fell short in the playbacks.
